Quit Smoking with Vaping – Are E-cigs the Answer to Your Problem?

For the past few years, e-cigs have been considered as an extremely popular aid to stop smoking, with its fame spreading in different corners of the world. Evidences are continuously being gathered about their effectiveness but a lot of people have discovered vaping as helpful when it comes to quitting smoking.

Based on research, it has been revealed that e-cigs can assist you in giving up smoking. If you are planning to use an e-cig to help you in kicking your habit, you are giving yourself a great chance to embrace a healthier way of life.

Vaping advocates have promoted this as a means to help smokers of cigarettes to quit their habit. Even though giving up on nicotine products once and for all could be the main goal, there are a lot of health benefits that await a smoker if he or she chooses to become a long term vaper instead although it is still waiting for further proof.

A new research compares vaping with some other common approaches for nicotine replacement as a means to help smokers in quitting their habit. The findings have supported the belief that vaping will be able to help other smokers.

The researchers recruited around 900 people who wished to kick their habit. The first half was randomly assigned to receive e-cigs while the other half received other types of nicotine replacement products like nicotine gums and patches. All the participants of the study have undergone individual counseling every week for a span of four weeks. After a year, smoking cessation has been confirmed through measuring the exhaled carbon monoxide that gets low if you have quit. On the other hand, this will be high if you are still smoking.

Below are the findings of the study:

  • Among the participants who have been assigned to vape, around 18 percent stopped smoking while around 10 percent of those who used nicotine replacement therapy quit.
  • Reports of phlegm production and cough dropped more in the group who used e-cigs.
  • Among the successful quitters, 80 percent of those in the e-cig group continued to vape while only 9 percent of those in the group using nicotine replacements still used the products.

So, even though the use of e-cigarette was linked with almost twice the rate of quitting smoking, over 80 percent of smokers who entered the study continued smoking after a year. However, it is worthy to note one caveat. The e-cigs that were used in the study contained relatively lower nicotine levels compared to those found in common US brands. The importance of such difference is not clear but higher level of nicotine could contribute to higher addiction rate to e-cigs.
